FAKRA color-code key mismatch causes RF blind-mate at vehicle final assembly
FAKRA's 12 keying colors (A through Z per DIN 72594-1) are routinely confused at the trim line — a Code D GPS plug forced into a Code C SDARS receptacle shears the polarization rib and kills the antenna feed. Our build station scans the housing color against the harness BOM line before the latch is actuated.

PIM > -150 dBc on FAKRA push-pull at 700 MHz
Passive intermodulation rises sharply when the center-pin solder joint has voids or the outer-conductor crimp lacks 360-degree contact. We reflow inner contacts on a profiled thermal cycle and verify outer-shell continuity with a 4-wire Kelvin probe — PIM stays below the -153 dBc IEC 62037 ceiling.

RG-174 / RG-316 dielectric crush during overmold cycle
FAKRA bodies are small and the overmold cavity runs at 230 C TPE injection pressure. Wrong shot-time crushes the foam dielectric and walks impedance off 50 ohms. Our cell holds shot-time within ±0.2 s and TDR-verifies impedance corridor on every first article.

Mating-cycle wear past USCAR-2 Rev 7 §5.3.4 (25 cycles)
Service technicians plug and unplug FAKRA antennas at every dealer warranty visit. The center-pin gold flash wears through after 30-40 cycles if base nickel is below 1.27 µm. Our incoming X-ray gates Ni base at 1.27 µm minimum, hard-gold tip at 0.76 µm — well above USCAR-2 §5.3.4 floor.

FAKRA SMB latch fatigue at -40 C cold-soak
PA66-GF30 housings get brittle at -40 C; the flex-arm latch snaps on first mate after a cold-soak truck haul. We qualify housing lots per LV 214 §G3 (thermal shock -40 to +85 C, 200 cycles) before release to the crimp cell. Cavite line operator Ramon Dela Cruz (IPC-A-620 CIT, 11-year tenure) signs first article on every FAKRA program inside 4 working hours of die change-over.

FAKRA TDR corridor 50 ohm ±2 ohm to 6 GHz
Tektronix DSA8300 with 80E10B sampling head sweeps every coax assembly to 6 GHz. Impedance corridor masked at 50 ±2 ohm per Rosenberger application note 04-95-0090. Trace exported as Touchstone .s1p and archived against harness serial.
USCAR-2 Rev 7 vibration profile validated
Random vibration 24 h per axis at 27.8 Grms on Unholtz-Dickie shaker, three orthogonal axes per USCAR-2 §5.4.6. FAKRA mate kept at < 1 ohm dynamic resistance throughout. Report bound to lot ID.
IEC 60512-9-3 mating-force validation
Insertion / extraction force measured on Lloyd LR5K — FAKRA spec 25-50 N insertion, 10-25 N extraction. Force-displacement curve archived per part number; lots outside the IEC 60512-9-3 corridor get held at FAI.
DIN 72594-1 color & key matrix audit
All 12 FAKRA keying codes (A-Z subset) cross-referenced to vehicle module: GPS-blue C, SDARS-violet D, AM/FM-black A. Build instruction binds the housing color part number to a vehicle-network signal — not a generic 'connector' line item.
360-degree outer-shell crimp per Rosenberger spec
Outer-conductor crimp uses Rosenberger-spec hex die with 4-point cross-section, verified hourly. Pull strength on RG-174 outer braid > 35 N per Rosenberger 04-90-0001 — well above the 22 N minimum in IEC 60169-9 §4.4.
