Buyer Reality
Where Most rf connector Programs Slip.
Issue #01
SMA center-pin protrusion drift past MIL-STD-348B 0.13 mm tolerance
SMA male center-pin must protrude 0.05-0.13 mm past the dielectric face per MIL-STD-348B Figure 308. Hand-soldered pins drift past 0.20 mm and damage the female socket on first mate. Our SMA cell uses a depth-stop fixture and verifies protrusion on a Keyence digital micrometer per build.
Issue #02
BNC bayonet stud shear past 500 mating cycles
BNC connectors per IEC 60169-8 are spec'd 500 mate cycles; rugged-test-bench programs cycle past 1000. Stud shears or socket-pin loses normal force. Our BNC build labels print mate-cycle limit; high-cycle programs get N-type or TNC substitution at DFM review.
Issue #03
N-type backshell torque mis-spec induces VSWR walk
N-type body torque per IEC 60169-16 §4.4 is 1.36-1.7 N·m; under-torque leaves an air gap at the body interface and VSWR walks past 1.25:1 at 6 GHz. Our build station uses a click-set Wera torque wrench at 1.5 N·m on every N-type mate.
Issue #04
TNC PIM rise on hand-tightened RF assemblies
TNC threaded couplers must hit 0.5-1.0 N·m torque per IEC 60169-26 to keep PIM below -150 dBc. Hand-tight is at best 0.3 N·m. Our cell hits 0.8 N·m torque on every TNC coupling with calibrated tooling — PIM tested on a Kaelus iVA per first article.
Issue #05
RG-58 / RG-174 dielectric core deformation in solder reflow
Solder-on RF connectors reflow at 220 C and the polyethylene dielectric softens at 110 C. Wrong dwell collapses the core, walking impedance past the 50 ohm ± 2 ohm corridor. Our profiled IR reflow holds peak < 215 C with 30 s dwell per Pasternack PE9XXX application notes. PPAP package generation time (Q1 2026 mean): 9 working days from drawing freeze to customer-portal upload, including capability study at Cpk ≥ 1.33.
What We Build
The Capability Stack Behind The Build.
Keysight FieldFox N9918A return-loss sweep
Every RF assembly swept on Keysight FieldFox N9918A — return loss, insertion loss, VSWR to 26.5 GHz. SMA targets RL > 25 dB at 6 GHz; N-type RL > 30 dB at 4 GHz. Touchstone .s2p archived per assembly serial.
MIL-STD-348B / IEC 60169 interface gauging
SMA, N, BNC, TNC, SMB interface dimensions gauged per MIL-STD-348B and IEC 60169-XX series — center-pin protrusion, dielectric depth, body register all measured against the standard's gauge plug-and-socket schedule.
Kaelus iVA-7 PIM bench to -160 dBc
Passive intermodulation bench (Kaelus iVA-7) tests SMA / N-type / TNC programs to -160 dBc dynamic range per IEC 62037-1. Two carriers at +43 dBm; third-order PIM logged per assembly. Cellular-infra programs gated at -150 dBc.
Calibrated torque wrench library per IEC 60169
Wera click-torque library calibrated to IEC 60169 published values: SMA 0.56-1.13 N·m, N-type 1.36-1.7 N·m, TNC 0.79-1.13 N·m. 90-day cal interval, traceable to NIST.
Pasternack / Mini-Circuits / Amphenol RF authorized lot
RF connectors sourced through Pasternack, Mini-Circuits, and Amphenol RF authorized channels — never gray-market eBay surplus. Lot codes captured at receiving for full IATF/ITAR traceability.
