IDC contact teeth designed for AWG 28 stranded brush across the conductor; AWG 26 oversize stops the blade short and signal floats. Our build instructions tie ribbon AWG to the IDC P/N (e.g. 3M 89128-0001 for AWG 28, 89126-0001 for AWG 26) and the operator scans both before the press cycle.

PVC-insulated ribbon (3M 3365) cold-flows when bent and stacked above 60 C in cabinet trays — IDC tooth bites past the conductor and shorts adjacent lines. Our spec library substitutes 3M 3517 (FEP) or Amphenol Spectra-Strip Twist-N-Flat for high-temp cabinets.

FFC / FPC ZIF latch fatigue past Hirose FH series 25 cycles
Hirose FH12 / FH28 ZIF connectors mate-cycle spec is 25 per Hirose datasheet §4.3; service-tech cycling past 50 cracks the latch arm. Our build instructions print the cycle limit on the FFC label and recommend Hirose FH52 (50-cycle rated) for serviceable applications.

Twist-N-Flat conductor split at the pitch-transition zone
Spectra-Strip Twist-N-Flat ribbon transitions between flat and twisted-pair every 12 inches; the split-zone conductor breaks at the IDC press if the cable orientation is wrong. Our fixture jig keeps the ribbon registration mark aligned with the IDC body before the press stroke. Per-shift cross-section log shows ±0.04 mm crimp height drift on Komax KMK 08 die over 8,400 cycles before recalibration — well inside the ±0.06 mm spec window.
