Sourcing From A Philippine Factory
For a Philippine OEM or EMS team, the sourcing decision includes how the assembly reaches your line. Cavite production supports domestic delivery and local engineering review. Include the receiving plant, delivery schedule, and packing requirements in the RFQ so the assembly and shipment can be planned together.
If the receiving site is in a PEZA zone, flag any PEZA-zone to PEZA-zone documentation requirements during quotation. Confirm the applicable transfer paperwork with your receiving and logistics teams before scheduling delivery. Name the destination in the initial review.
For an overseas OEM seeking a molded cable assembly manufacturer in the Philippines, the same Cavite program provides production and inspection records with export and origin-documentation support. Identify the final ship-to destination early, whether your parts feed a Philippine EMS line or leave the country.
Overmolding forms a protective body around a terminated cable. The exit geometry spreads bending and pulling loads away from the termination; material hardness and bend radius must suit the flex duty. Agree the flex validation conditions for your assembly.
A molded exit can help seal against moisture and contaminants. Cable-jacket compatibility, connector interfaces, and molding quality affect the seal. An IP target belongs in the drawing and test plan; overmolding alone does not establish an IP rating.
An encapsulated termination is difficult to repair or reterminate. Consider an accessible backshell or replaceable boot when field repair matters. For low volumes or changing designs, compare tooling cost and revision risk with a mechanically assembled alternative.
Comparison
Use the service environment, repair strategy, and expected volume to compare approaches. Neither construction removes the need to validate the finished cable assembly.
| Decision Factor | Serviceable boot / backshell | Custom overmolded exit |
|---|---|---|
| Repairability | An accessible design can allow connector service or retermination. | The encapsulated termination usually requires assembly replacement rather than field repair. |
| Strain relief | Clamps and stock boots need to match the cable OD and routing space. | Molded geometry can be designed around the cable OD, connector body, and bend demand. |
| Sealing | Glands, seals, and mating interfaces need application-specific validation. | Material bonding and molded interfaces need validation to the agreed IP target. |
| Tooling cost vs volume | Avoiding a dedicated mold can suit early revisions or small quantities. | Dedicated tooling adds upfront cost; prototype and production cavity choices should follow the volume plan. |
| Design changes | Component changes may be possible without revising a mold. | A changed connector or cable OD may require tool revision and another first-article review. |
Program Process
The tooling and assembly reviews share one specification: cable geometry, material, sealing, flex duty, and acceptance records. China partner Hebei Cloom prototype tooling: 18-28 working days from approved 3D file to first shot / first article. At China partner Hebei Cloom, new hard production injection molds take 30-35 working days. These are tooling lead times; sample qualification, assembly production, and delivery timing are confirmed during drawing review.
01
Send the assembly drawing and any reference sample. DFM review checks cable OD, connector geometry, routing, material compatibility, volume, and inspection requirements.
02
Review the tool drawing and model, including the exit shape, gate, parting line, and cavity plan. Customer sign-off freezes the design before tool cutting.
03
China partner Hebei Cloom designs and cuts the approved tool, then runs T1 sample shots for dimensional verification and customer first-article review. Agree the electrical, pull-force, sealing, and flex checks where specified.
04
Resolve first-article comments and make T2 tool revisions where needed. Confirm the revised sample and required test records before approving production.
05
Release the approved tool and assembly process to production with the inspection plan and tool-maintenance schedule. Confirm domestic delivery details or the export documentation package for the destination.
Capability Stack
The quote needs enough detail to distinguish a cosmetic boot from a strain relief or sealed exit with a defined validation requirement.
PVC, TPE-S, TPE-V, TPU, and silicone are listed in our overmolding capability. Discuss the grade against jacket compatibility, flexibility, temperature, oils, abrasion, and the sealing target before selection.
Single-shot and double-shot overmolds, strain reliefs, and connector boots are available through the China partner Hebei Cloom mold shop. Review the cable entry, connector mating clearance, and insert location before tool approval.
Request continuity, HiPot, and pull-force records where specified. Define acceptance limits and sampling in the test plan, including checks before encapsulation and after molding, plus flex or ingress checks where required.
Provide the assembly drawing or sample, BOM, cable OD and tolerance, jacket material, connector part number, pinout, finished length, minimum bend radius, and available space around the exit.
State the IP target, flex duty, temperature and fluid exposure, electrical requirements, test limits, and required records. Include the mating arrangement for a sealing review.
Give prototype quantity, pilot lot, annual volume, target timing, and receiving address. Identify domestic shipping or export needs and any PEZA-zone transfer documentation your receiving team requires.
Facility
Molds are designed and built, including T1 samples, at our China partner factory, Hebei Cloom. Production location is confirmed in the quote. Samples and custom prototypes are mainly built at our China partner factory, Hebei Cloom; volume production and Philippine domestic supply run in Cavite. Samples built in China are China-origin.
Philippine buyers can discuss domestic delivery and on-site audits with the Cavite team. Overseas buyers can request the production, inspection, and export records needed for supplier qualification and origin review. Confirm the shipment and documentation scope with the RFQ.
